Not reliable September 7, 2010 Carole B. Be forewarned. Today I purchased from Amazon a different heating pad to replace this one, which had been a gift. The controller on my gift stopped working, the same problem that others have reported here for this make/model. I conclude it's unreliable. For good measure, I'll mention a couple of other things. Although I used it on and off - for sore muscles - for several years, I found it quite small. Also, the stiff wiring inside made it a challenge to wrap it around a limb. It did have comfortable heat levels, and I also highly recommend an auto shut-off like this one. I burned myself falling asleep on a heating pad some years back!
Excellent right away September 4, 2010 Dragonwort Castle Great size, easy to operate, very comfortable even warmth right out of the box. Even comes with a case that can be used for travel. Soft gray large pad that is a perfect size. Highly recommended so far. I have read of some failure/breakdown of various pads. There can be defects in anything but look at the numbers. Our heating pads are used almost every day so time will tell soon if it is unworthy of 5 stars, and I will update, but we usually get about 2 years out of a pad with almost daily use, and then some wire breaks down. At $31 for this, it only costs about 4 cents a day, not including electricity, for 2 years; 8 cents a day for one year. Worth every penny. When you think of what it has to do, the pressure and the flexing of hot electrical wires, it is challanged. For those that complain about longevity I suggest a non-electrical heating pad, but you will get gel, microwave, cloth breakdown eventually, as well. Stick with a name brand product, and buy from a reliable company, such as Amazon or Costco where they really want you to be satisfied, and allow returns. Also, fast shipping with Prime, and 1 day for only $3.99. No, I am not associated with any retailer; just a consumer.
Doesn't last long! September 2, 2010 N. Nichols (WA) The heat setting buttons broke after a year of use. Now it only works on low and med/low.
Waste of money!
this heating pad is WONDERFUL.. August 4, 2010 Elona This heating pad is WONDERFUL!! I'VE been through several heating pads throughout my injury..this one is the BEST!! Nice and soft ..like a quilt...I just purchased 2 more of the same kind...I will always buy this certain heating pad from now on. Fast Shipment...absolutely 100% satisfied!! I just LOVE this heating pad!
What makes it good for me, may make it bad for you August 3, 2010 WDB (Vancouver, WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'll explain my review title, this heating pad is constructed with about 13 wire type heating elements that are all arranged traveling down the pad widthwise in one direction. What this does, is make the pad curl very nicely in one direction, which it curls up lengthwise due to the way the cords are all running widththwise. The cords are rather stiff but do soften up a bit once it gets hot.
This works perfectly for me because I wrap this thing around my calf and achilles tendon and it'd work great for wrapping around an arm or a leg. The pad doesn't curl up widthwise very well, but like I said, that could be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on how you want to use it.
It gets hot enough for me, but I can imagine that for some it would not be hot enough for what they want to use it for. I'm not some kind of wussy when it comes to heat or anything just to clarify, but I'd say that the pad reaches a nice therapeutic level of hotness. Overall, for me I really like this pad and am very satisfied with it.
One thing that needs to be mentioned though, is that the entire surface of this pad doesn't heat up. The last 2 inches or so on each side lengthwise and the top and bottom inch going widthwise do not contain the heating wires and do not get hot at all. You can see clearly in the photo of the item where there are rumples, this is where the wires are and the smooth parts of the pad contain no heating element at all and do not get hot. So it's not a full 18 inches that you're getting when it comes to heating surface.
